So I discovered yesterday that as much as I talk to women I still don't speak their language. I was on playing for several hours when this little bit of conversation happened:

Moon: Is there an auction house in Bree?
Baronland: Yes
Moon: Where is it?
Baronland: It's at the far south side of the city.
Moon: ok, ty

Then, TWO HOURS LATER. That's right, I said two hours.

Pacha has come online.
Moon: Pachness!!!!!!
Pach: Mooooniieeeeee!!!!!
Moon: I've been wandering around Bree trying to find the auction house.
Me: ...
Pach: It's at the south of the city.
Pach: Through the woodcutters gate past the jail.
Me: If you press M to open your map you'll see a gavel icon at the bottom of the map.
Pach: Look to the right.
Pach: There's a big ugly pig outside the door.
Pach: Go inside that door, that's the auction house.
Moon: Thanks Pach!!!
Me: ...

Now I know women say that men will always be lost because they won't bother to ask for directions. Well I say that women will always be lost because they need someone to hold their hand the entire trip to get where they're going.

Anyway, I spent a while chuckling afterward knowing for sure that no matter what I say there will be a woman that just hears "blah blah blah".

Pacha has come online.
Moon: Pachness!!!!!!
Pach: Moooooooooooooooooooooooon!!!!!
Moon: I've been wandering around Bree trying to find the auction house.
Simon: ...
Pach: It's at the south of the city, near the south stable.
Moon: Is it near the jail?
Pach: Yes, go through the woodcutters gate. It'll be on the right.
Simon: If you presshhh M to open your (hic) map you'll shee a gavel icon at the (hic) bottom of the map.
Moon: Thanks Pach!!!
Simon: hey, dish big boar beer isssh goooooood! (hic)

... Simon musta been drunk, 'cause I never mentioned the boar (I never noticed it?)... and you know a drunk can't give directions... ;)

I think the best part is the image I had of Moon after realizing she'd been wandering around Bree for two hours trying to find the auction house. I had a picture of a girl skipping around, going between staring up into the sky and being distracted by all the pretty flowers, twirling her finger in her curly hair, and looking at EVERYTHING except the door to the auction house.

Interesting.

Simon, allow me to set things straight. "Far south side" was not specific enough, since the city was new to me and confusing. Pach offered specific directions. I don't like to bug people, so I didn't press you further.

Two hours passed because I had to take an important phone call and then got busy with crafting things and completing quests before returning to my search for the auction house, which lasted all of 10 minutes. Skipping through town twirling my hair was not on the agenda.

I find it interesting that you chose to regard this as a "woman" thing, and that you also regard me as such an idiot. Those who know me personally know that this is anything but the case. For the record, I do not require someone to hold my hand and lead me around. I am, however, capable of following specific directions.

Although after this, I'm feeling a bit discouraged from asking for help, lest I become more fodder for your interesting and sometimes scathing sense of humor.

Moon

oh Moon, please do not hesitate to ask for help, this was certainly the exception. Sometimes folks forget just how new a person is, and do not give the best directions. We all have to ask at one time or another, and as for holding hands, why who was the person that needed help in the Misty Mountains a while back, and DK rode all the way there to show her the path??

I do not think SS meant to be mean or hurt your feelings...I do think he wondered why you did not ask again for specific directions as yes... South side of town is a bit vague.

Besides we love our Moon!!! and all of us have been lost at one time or another...and others more often than that, you should be in this room listening to Poco sometimes...and the grumbling that comes up from the basement cause he is lost.

Oh, Moon... I agree that "southside of Bree" wasn't accurate, and I had the advantage over Simon that you asked me if it was near the jail, so I could give you directions from there.

As for the description of you... I pictured a young, happy, free-sprited woman enjoying the day and her trip through life at Simon's description--and that's certainly how I view you in RL.

Now, if you will, allow me to set things even straighter. If my original directions were not specific enough you can always feel free to ask for clarification. I would have been more than happy to give you something more if you had but asked.

I didn't know that you had a phone call and you never volunteered the information. I wasn't remarking that you took two hours to find the AH, only that it was two hours later that you again asked for directions. If you don't want me to think of you as a cute little girl seeing the big city for the first time then I assure you I will never think it again.

I chose it as a woman thing because it was an attempt to make light of the situation. That you were unable to see it that way, I guess, is a direct result of my utter callousness. Never once did I say or imply that I thought you were an idiot.

As for my sense of humor being scathing, that I guess I'll agree with. I guess if I see further requests for directions to anywhere I will refrain from typing anything into the kinship chat box. That way you don't need to feel discouraged.

As I said at the beginning, I don't speak woman. And you can be sure that if I can't even speak your language there is no way in heck I'll understand the sensitive woman dialect.

Moon, I get lost all the time too. Pach often says I would get lost in a paperbag with a map and a flashlight. LOL

Don't feel bad about the remarks. I viewed them as our lovable Moon who is free spirited and enjoying wander the city and seeing the sights. I do the same at times and have caught a couple of player run concerts right outside the Prancing Pony.

I also found the cat house while exploring the city of Bree. Don't ask me where it is though, I was lost when I found it quite by accident. :)

Qitty, I've never had the pleasure of catching a concert in front of the Prancing Pony! How were they? I have not happened across the cat house, either...is there really a cat house...as in, you know, cat house? In Bree? Too funny!

Thanks for the love, Amy and Pach. And Trekky, while holding my hand is certainly not required, it would be welcome :)

Moon, the impromptu concerts are usually very good. I spent Christmas Eve listening to one group playing Christmas songs (they took requests, too).

We could do the concerts, too, if we had enough people interested...
